Hello my loves! First of all, happy new year! May 2022 be the year you stop daydreaming about your dreams and start working towards them! It’s never too late to start! Like most people, I like to set some year resolutions in the beginning of January and this year is no exception. One of them is to be more active with sports. When I was younger I did ballet, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, shooting (the sport, not hunting!). Each one for a few years and then archery and long jump for one day haha!

For those who don’t know, I’m a beautician and the majority of the day I don’t keep my back straight and it started being a huge problem lately. I hate the gym but my body needs to be more active in order to overcome any back pain. My first thought was to start yoga or pilates but I wasn’t so interested in these. Then it hit me, I could start ballet lessons!

Ballet is one of my favourite things in the world. It trains the body in the most elegant way, keeps the back straight, creates a beautiful figure and is more demanding than expected. So last year October I started ballet lessons in Balletstudio Kennemerland in Haarlem! The reaction I got from people was mixed. Some told me that it’s amazing to do the things I love and some told me that I’m too old for it and what’s the point of doing it.

For a while I started doubting myself and I was wondering if ballet was indeed the best option. After a long thought I said to myself why not try it and see. It might not be for you but it’s better to try instead of wondering what if! No matter what you want to do in your life it’s never too late to start, NEVER! Sure, it might be more difficult than when you were younger but it doesn’t matter as long as you love it.

When I started with the lessons I didn’t know what to expect and if I could actually do it. Last time I took ballet classes I was probably 7-8 years old and that’s a long time ago!

Luckily my ballet teacher, Lucy, is the best! Not only does she teach you how to properly move but she also teaches you to love your body and listen to it. She doesn’t push you beyond your capabilities if you don’t feel ready to do it and she always makes you feel safe. I have a mild knee injury from when I was young, some movements still feel unnatural to do and my body immediately tries to protect the knee. Lucy takes time to explain the exercise and help you understand your body and how it moves better. I was so excited with the lessons and I can’t wait to start again once the lockdown is over!

When was the last time you felt excited? If you can’t even remember, then it’s time for a change my friend! Make a list of all the things you want to try in your life and start doing them! Make memories, be silly, explore, don’t take life too seriously. Life is too short and is better to try things and fail than wonder! Live your life to the fullest and have the absolute best time of your life every day! This doesn’t only apply to hobbies but to everything in your life. From relationships to work and everything in between!

All I want to say by writing this post is go out and do it! Not matter what is is or how afraid you are to start it! Please don’t do anything illegal though and always stay safe. Never settle for something that doesn’t excite you or doesn’t make you feel alive! Especially when it comes to hobbies and to new experiences! You will be amazed by what you are capable of doing if you put your mind into it.
