Continuing on the same page as my previous post, today I’m here to talk again about Belgian chocolate! It’s my weakness, I’m not gonna lie! And when you discover something good you need to share it with others! If you ever come to Amsterdam and you fancy yourself something sweet, I would advise you to go to Polaberry. It’s located in Prinsengracht 232 and they have a selection of covered (with Belgian chocolate) strawberries and other fruits, cake, macarons and chocolate bars among other things. Everything is individually hand crafted and you can see the finesse that goes to each piece. The presentation is on another level! Polina, the owner, is the sweetest and the customer service was impeccable every time I went. From all the things I’ve tried so far my favorites are the covered strawberries and the macarons.
Last time I visited was two weeks ago with my friend Chryssa and I got a box with 3 pieces. The box is for 4 pieces but if you decide to get a cakesicle then you can only fit 3 pieces inside as the cakesicle is big and takes the space of 2 pieces. It cost around 9 euro and I picked a cake pop, a strawberry and a macaron.
Strawberries are my favourite fruit ever and I can never say no to them. The strawberries at Polaberry are tasty no matter the season and they are dipped in a very good quality and delicious chocolate. The coat has the perfect size, not too thin or too thick. You can still taste the strawberry and the chocolate separately and that’s goals if you ask me! This time I got a strawberry with dark chocolate and raspberry pieces on top. So yummy!
Macarons are also one of my favourite sweets and they were very fresh! The available flavours when we went were lemon, apple and raspberry and I picked raspberry. I kid you not it was one of the freshest and most flavourful macarons I’ve ever tasted in the Netherlands. You know sometimes you get a fruit flavour macaron and it tastes more like a colour and less like the actual fruit. The Polaberry macaron though was so full of flavour and I enjoyed every bite of it! And doesn’t it look the cutest with its little heart shape? Definitely will try the other flavours too.
Polaberry has the cutest looking cake pops! The one I picked had pink chocolate and a unicorn theme. You can tell pink is my favourite colour if you see what I picked! The cakesicle, was my least favourite of the three but it was still tasty and super cute looking! I think I would prefer it less sweet but I’m generally very picky with cakes. Although it might have seemed sweeter because I ate it right after the strawberry, this needs more investigation so next time I’ll get another one! The cake tasted good, was well baked and wasn’t dry at all. I loved the balance of the soft inside in combination with the hard chocolate on the outside.
Overall once again I was happy and I will definitely go back for more! I also believe that the things they offer are perfect for gifts. Whether it’s an anniversary, birthday or any other occasion there is always a good reason for good quality chocolate and cute desserts! What is your favourite sweet/dessert?
You can find Polaberry also in Rotterdam and a few other cities around the world. You can also check their website for more info.
