The Runway Inspirations series are back and today’s trend is pleated skirt & dresses! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on these series but with Covid all we seem to care about were pyjamas and loungewear, am I right? I don’t know about you but I’m more than ready to leave loungewear behind me! For everyone who is new here let me tell you a bit more about the Runway Inspirations series. Basically I check what is trending and I pick only the trends I would wear anyways and show you how I would adjust them to my everyday life. You are not gonna see anything too extreme here or anything that is not my style. Well maybe I’ll try in the store something for fun but I stopped following trends somewhere in my uni years.

I used to follow trends like crazy in high school and ended up with a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear! Nowadays I only buy classic pieces that I know I can wear for many years to come. I only shop trends when they are my style and I would wear them anyways. When something is trending and it’s your style is the perfect opportunity to buy it. Most likely every single brand (from luxury to more affordable) will probably sell a version of it!

So let’s jump to the pleated skirt trend! We saw many pleated pieces on the runway for spring summer 2022. From the micro mini Miu Miu skirt that was everywhere in fashion week till full length ones and everything in between! Whether pleats are on skirts, dresses or even tops I truly adore them. Especially the slimmer ones (see Erdem and Maxwell looks below) I find them very elegant!

So when I found this skirt at H&M my heart skipped a beat! It comes in many colours (I had my eyes on the cream and pink also) but I’ve decided to get it in brown. I try lately to introduce more brown in my wardrobe as it looks perfect with white, cream and pink. If you know me you know that brown is one of my least favourite colours and I’ve tried in the past to wear it many times but it didn’t work. I loved this shade of brown though and it goes so well with the rest of my clothes.

Midi is a tricky length for petite people like me. I prefer to wear midi length with heels to give me some extra height points but I love seeing other people combine it with sneakers. It looks very cool in my opinion! Here is how I styled the midi pleated skirt in 3 ways.

On the first outfit I combined the pleated skirt with a lilac cardigan and yellow slingback shoes. This is my favourite combination and the reason is the shoes. The instep is visible and elongates the leg. Colourwise I loved the combination of lilac, yellow and brown. I’m a huge fan of neutrals and I normally stay away from bold combinations. But there is something about this colour combo that I absolutely adore!

For the second outfit I opted for another heeled pair of shoes but this one has straps. Because the straps “cut” the foot the leg appears shorter. Regarding the colours I played with pink shades. Out of the three looks this is my favourite one colourwise. If you spend more than a second on my Instagram feed you can tell that I’m a sucker for pink! And pink and brown pair so well together. I used to combine pink with black all the time and I still love it very much, but when I want a softer look I like to switch black with brown.

The third outfit is something that I wouldn’t wear because I feel the combination with the sneakers make me look shorter. As I mentioned earlier though I love seeing this combination on other people and that’s why I wanted to add it on this post. The colour palette choice is a safe one and I feel that everybody could wear it.

Which outfit is your favourite?
